The Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is a credential that is internationally recognized in the project management discipline. It signifies an individual has the process knowledge, experience, and training that is required to practice the methodologies prescribed by the Project Management Institute (PMI). It has become a professional standard and prerequisite for countless organizations and companies. As of the time of writing, according to PMI, there are currently more than 1 million PMP certification holders in more than 120 countries, and the numbers continue to grow.
Industries that rely on PMP certification include information technology, telecommunications, construction, health care, government, and many other professions. Because project management applies to all industries, the PMP certification is applicable to all projects in all industries, in all locations, regardless of the size and nature. Many corporations are requesting PMP certification as a requirement for career development or as a prerequisite to employment. The requirements for PMP certification are extensive. PMI requires specific educational and experience attributes before an application can be submitted. Upon completion of the requirements and passing of the exam, additional continuing certification requirements have to be fulfilled to maintain certification.

Learners who complete this program are eligible to participate in an optional volunteer externship opportunity with a local company/agency/organization whose work aligns with this area of study in order to gain valuable hands-on experience. As learners progress through their eLearning program, an Externship Coordinator will reach out to coordinate placement.
